Following the announcement that Lancashire County Council are looking to close 40 out of 74 libraries, local campaigner Simon Thomson began working with other Coppull residents on the “Save Coppull Library” campaign.
Simon has delivered leaflets asking people to complete the consultation online or in the library, collected signatures for a petition and helped organise the “read in” at Coppull library on 30th January. The “read in” was a huge success and featured readings from local authors, actress Kay Purcell and comedian Dave Spikey amongst others.
Speaking after the event Simon said: “It was a wonderful occasion and heartening to see that over 350 residents of all ages came together to help save this much loved local library”. There will be a further consultation starting in May which will focus on how to retain those services that Lancashire County Council have earmarked for closure.
